The graphic design trends for 2020

As you have probably noticed, in recent years, the world of graphic design has been dominated by bold colors and futuristic compositions.

In 2020, however, the world of graphic design tends to be much more binding, harmonious and natural. A change that comes as a reaction to the exaggeration that prevailed in the trends of previous years. The trend of fancy colors and designs and the general “exaggeration” in the design, initially offered uniqueness, but the excessive use of this tactic ended up being saturated and became commonplace.

So what exactly are the changes that the new trend brings in 2020?

MUTED COLOR PALETTES

In previous years we had an upsurge of bright and vibrant colors. In 2020, however, it brings more pale shades, less intense and more “faded”.

ABSTRACT & DREAMY ILLUSTRATIONS

The abstract illustrations give uniqueness, they are difficult to copy and they are the absolute trend for 2020. Mailchimp has paved the way – since last year – with the result that this technique has become very popular.

HEAVY BUT SIMPLE FONTS

The typography trend for 2020 wants the fonts to be simple, but bold or even extra-bold, resulting in a “heavy” look. This type of font like the header in the example below can give your designs a modern aesthetic.

FLOWING SHAPES & LINES

Designers will continue to reject the extravagant geometric shapes that were once so popular. These will be replaced by more flowing shapes, patterns and lines, as follows:

GENUINE & NEUTRAL STOCK PHOTOS

A few years ago, bright, bold and colorful images became extremely popular. The designers made intense photo editing with excessive saturation to a point where the photo did not even look real, like the example below.

But in 2020, things change and we expect to see much quieter, genuine and neutral photos like the ones below:
